Aden, Yemen – To commemorate the 48th anniversary of the beginning of the revolution against the British occupation in South Yemen in 1963, protests were organized in Aden on October 14th 2011.

Thousands of people took to the streets of Mansoura to participate in the march organized by the Southern Movement. Created in 2007, the movement answers to social and economic demands following the marginalization of the region by the north since the end of the civil war in 1994.

Since then, activists are divided between those asking for a formal independence to put an end to the “occupation by the North” and those who prefer a federal system giving more autonomy to the region.
